The title of this work is a reference to the Luther-Projekt’s motto alles hat seine Zeit (‘all in good time’). As a fugitive going by the pseudonym “Junker Jörg”, the great man took his time over the [German] translation of the New Testament – all of eleven weeks, according to historical record, in what was a brief and highly concentrated period of creative activity. The great British actor John Cleese lists time not once, but twice among the preconditions for creativity, firstly as part of an ‘oasis space-time’ that the creative individual creates for him or
herself, in order to concentrate on playing with their ideas undisturbed, and secondly as a dimension for polishing up a chosen idea, the length of time by which a creative individual is prepared to delay concluding the polishing phase, in order to arrive at the most original result. Both of these parameters of time serve to insulate the creative individual from their everyday activities – a sort of ‘time-out’ from the wider world.

Mit dem Titel nehme ich Bezug auf das Thema „Alles hat seine Zeit“ des Luther-Projekts. Als „vogelfreier“ Junker Jörg nahm sich der große Mann die Zeit für die Übersetzung des Neuen Testaments. In elf Wochen hat er das geschafft, so die geschichtlichen Belege. Das war ein kurzer und höchstintensiver kreativer Prozess. Unter Bedingungen für die Kreativität nennt der große britische Schauspieler John Cleese gleich zweimal die Zeit. Erstens als Teil einer Zeit-Raum-Oase, die sich der Kreative schafft, um sich ungestört auf das Spiel mit den Ideen konzentrieren zu können. Und zweitens als Dimension für das Polieren einer ausgewählten Idee: Wie lang der Schaffende bereit ist, das Aufhören vom Polieren aufzuschieben, um schliessendlich zum originellsten Ergebnis zu gelingen. Beide Zeitebenen ermöglichen der kreativen Person eine Isolation von den alltäglichen Tätigkeiten – sozusagen ein Time-out von der äusseren Welt.
